Technological and Policy Solutions for the Management of Contaminated Sediments
The event organized by Nisida Environment as part of the European LIFE Sedremed project took place on February 9, 2023, at the Political Intelligence headquarters in Brussels. The event provided a key opportunity for discussion on two crucial topics related to the management of contaminated sediments.
The event was attended by representatives from the European Commission (DG ENV and CINEA - European Climate, Infrastructure and Environment Executive Agency), the Permanent Representations of Italy and Finland to the EU, national and regional authorities, and numerous industry stakeholders. Among the participating organizations were the Italian Ministry of the Environment and Energy Security, the Swedish Geotechnical Institute, the Dutch Waterways Agency, and the Walloon Regional Environmental Agency (Belgium).

During the event, representatives from three LIFE projects – LIFE Sure, LIFE Belini, and LIFE Narmena – presented results, technological developments, and management strategies for the remediation of contaminated sediments and soils, creating a direct connection with the LIFE Sedremed partnership.
Finally, participants discussed the potential development of a European standard for sediment management, assessing whether a harmonized EU-wide approach would be preferable to continuing national policies within a framework of regional and community cooperation.
