Nisida Environment at the SedNet Conference 2023: Focus on Strategies for the Remediation of Contaminated Sediments
Lisbon, Portugal – Nisida Environment was selected to participate in the SedNet Conference 2023, held from September 6 to 8 in Lisbon. During this prestigious international event dedicated to the management of contaminated sediments, Nisida Environment presented the initial results of the LIFE Sedremed project, further strengthening its network of collaborations in the sector.
During the conference, experts and project partners showcased advances in marine sediment decontamination technologies:

Chiara Melchiorre (Stazione Zoologica Anton Dohrn and Project Manager of LIFE Sedremed) presented preliminary decontamination results, highlighting the potential of innovative remediation strategies and the adaptation of technologies to different environmental contexts.
Isodetect GmbH, a project partner, introduced the new monitoring approach implemented in Bagnoli, a symbolic area of deindustrialization in Italy.
Raffaele Vaccaro, CEO of Nisida Environment, delved into legislative solutions for managing contaminated sediments, analyzing how more efficient regulations can facilitate large-scale remediation interventions and support environmental projects.

Nisida Environment’s presentation also provided details on the decontamination plan currently being designed for the Bagnoli coastline, a highly polluted area affected by industrial contamination. The LIFE Sedremed results could positively influence remediation procedures in other contaminated coastal areas across Europe, contributing to the development of more sustainable and effective strategies.
The event was a key opportunity to strengthen dialogue among researchers, institutions, and companies dedicated to protecting the marine environment.
