International Conference on Marine Sediment Management: LIFE Sedremed at the center of discussions in Rome
Rome, Italy – The International Conference on Marine Sediment Management was held at Invitalia’s headquarters, focusing on innovative solutions for the remediation of contaminated sediments and the sustainable management of marine resources. The conference gathered experts, researchers, institutions, and industry representatives, providing a key platform for discussion on best practices and future challenges.
At the core of the debate were the advancements of LIFE Sedremed, the European project introducing an innovative approach to coastal marine sediment decontamination, integrating bioremediation and electrokinetic techniques. During the event, project partners presented the results of the initial laboratory experiments and the perspectives for future field applications.

Key topics addressed included the environmental impact of dredging operations, the high costs of traditional contaminated sediment management, and the need for integrated strategies to mitigate risks to marine ecosystems. Participants highlighted how the LIFE Sedremed project could serve as a sustainable and innovative solution, supporting European policies for water protection and ecological transition.
The event also fostered stronger international cooperation, actively involving public and private institutions in the promotion of advanced technologies for marine environmental protection.
